About The Art of Still Life

We don’t just put a bowl of fruit on a table and tell you to sketch. Our studio setups are lit with professional track lighting to create high-contrast shadows. This forces you to move beyond simple sketching and really understand volume and depth. You will learn how to handle light sources, reflective surfaces, and complex materials like glass or metal before you ever pick up a paintbrush.

Still life is the foundation of every professional artist’s toolkit. It is where you develop your eyes. You will spend hours observing how light interacts with different materials—how a glass bottle refracts, how matte fabric absorbs, or how metallic objects catch highlights. Our curriculum takes you through this study systematically. You start with basic geometric forms in graphite, moving into complex compositions that challenge your perception of space.

Whether you are working in charcoal, oil, or our signature ballpoint pen technique, our instructors teach you how to interpret surfaces. We provide the props and the controlled environment that make these technical nuances visible.

Why this matters for your art portfolio:

  • Material Mastery: You learn to handle different media by observing how they react to specific surfaces.
  • Light and Shadow: You move beyond simple coloring to understanding high-contrast, professional-grade shading.
  • Composition: You gain the ability to arrange subjects in a way that tells a story, rather than just copying what you see.

It is challenging work that requires focus, but we provide real-time, hands-on feedback to ensure you are actually improving. We invite you to step into our studio, use our professional easels, and start building a portfolio that demonstrates actual skill.
