Still Life & Foundational Studies: Learn Realistic Watercolor
Master the art of light and shadow. My workshops guide you from basic watercolor strokes to capturing complex textures in every composition, step by step.
A classic still life composition. This painting is a great exercise in rendering different textures, from the metallic sheen of the pitcher and the soft, matte surface of the bananas to the reflective glass.
This demonstration from my one-month course explores a variety of textures: the shimmer of fish, the gloss of cherries, the cool porcelain of the bowl, and the crisp folds of paper.
A study of light and shadow on apples. This still life from my complete watercolor course focuses on how strong sunlight creates deep shadows and brings out the vibrant red of the fruit.
The beauty of a simple scene. This still life of tulips on a rustic table is an exercise in capturing atmosphere, the texture of wood, and the play of light streaming in from a window.
A still life composition featuring fish, garlic, and chilies on a wooden surface. This piece is a study in capturing the rustic textures and varied shapes of everyday objects.
A vibrant fruit basket, brimming with color and texture. This still life from my course teaches how to handle complex compositions and make each element stand out.
A still life of yellow fruits in an earthen bowl. This painting focuses on capturing the subtle variations in color and the way light falls on rounded forms.
The finished flower painting on my easel, next to the palette used to create it. This shows the connection between the colors I mix and the final result on paper.
The still life of fish and cherries on my easel. Seeing the work in progress helps students understand the setup and process.
A video showing the final touches on the still life with fish and cherries. Notice the careful brushwork used to define the highlights and shadows.
About Still Life & Foundational Studies
In these sessions, we focus on the interplay of light and texture. You will learn to render the reflective glaze of a ceramic bowl or the soft sheen of fruit, moving beyond observation to true artistic expression. Every object tells a story, and I am here to help you translate those stories onto your paper.
Still life is the foundation where we learn the language of art. Before we capture faces or grand scenes, we must understand the basics: value, composition, and light.
My classes are not pre-recorded lessons that leave you alone with a screen. We paint live together on Zoom. This environment allows me to guide your brush strokes in real time and offer personalized feedback on your assignments via WhatsApp.
What we explore in these sessions:
- Light and Shadow: Understanding how a strong light source creates form and depth on simple objects.
- Texture Mastery: Learning to differentiate between the cool surface of porcelain, the matte skin of a banana, or the crisp fold of paper.
- Color Control: Using glazing techniques to build rich, vibrant colors without muddying your work.
- Composition: Arranging objects to tell a compelling story, rather than just placing them randomly.
Whether you join the weekend intensive or the 3-month mentorship, my goal is to help you build confidence. You do not need fancy materials to start. A few brushes, 300 gsm watercolor paper, and paints are enough to begin this journey.
We keep our batch sizes small so that every student gets individual attention. If you miss a live session, you have full access to the recordings. This is a space to slow down, breathe, and find the quiet rhythm of the brush.
