From the vast savannahs of Amboseli to the quiet wetlands of Bharatpur, this collection celebrates the grandest creatures I have encountered. Every image holds the stillness and the scale of these magnificent beings.

An African elephant in Amboseli, rendered in high-contrast black and white. This close-up portrait, with our safari vehicle in the background, emphasizes its immense size and textured skin, creating a powerful and dramatic image.

A pair of Demoiselle Cranes share an intimate moment, their forms creating a delicate symmetry. This high-key black and white sketch-style photo highlights their graceful connection and the minimalist beauty of the scene.

Two Painted Storks appear to be "necking," a common bonding behavior. Captured against a soft, pastel sunset, this image has a painterly quality that speaks of affection and partnership in the bird world.

The Dalmatian Pelican, with its wonderfully disheveled crest, reminds me of a certain politician's hairstyle. I captured this one in the beautiful morning light on Nalsarovar lake, its form standing out against the deep blue water.

A close-up portrait of the Dalmatian Pelican. The early morning light catches the texture of its feathers and the bright orange of its pouch, revealing the unique character of this large water bird.

A Spot-billed Pelican skims the water's surface in the golden light. This shot captures the grace and power of the bird in flight, its pouch just touching the sparkling water, creating a perfect reflection.

This film follows the life of Spot-billed Pelicans at Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary. Watch them scoop fish from the water with incredible precision, a behavior I spent hours observing. These birds are near-threatened, making every sighting precious.

The Great White Pelican has one of the biggest yawns in the bird world. After a session of group fishing in Bharatpur, they relax and stretch their neck muscles, their yellow pouches fluttering like little flags in the wind.

A large flock of Great White Pelicans rests in the misty landscape of Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur. The soft winter light creates a serene, almost ethereal atmosphere around this gathering of giants.

Two Sarus Cranes stand tall in the mystical grasslands of Bharatpur. Sighting these elusive, 6-foot-tall birds is as thrilling as finding a tiger. This painterly image captures them in the soft evening light, surrounded by tall grasses.

About Giants of the Land & Sky

I do not just carry a long lens to these shoots; I carry patience. When photographing the African elephant or the shy Sarus Crane, the key is waiting for the creature to accept my presence. For these large format prints, I focus on the textures—the rough skin of the elephant or the soft, wet feathers of a pelican—ensuring the final artwork captures the scale and reality of the encounter, not just a digital snapshot.

Photography is my meditation, and capturing large fauna is the ultimate exercise in being still. Whether I am tracking elephants in Amboseli or waiting for Sarus Cranes in the grasslands of Bharatpur, the goal is always to find the spirit within the subject. These giants are not just subjects for a frame; they are sentient beings living in habitats that are increasingly under pressure.

My approach to 'Giants of the Land & Sky' is about capturing the weight and grace of these animals. When you see a Dalmatian Pelican at Nalsarovar or a Painted Stork at T.S. Chanakya, you are witnessing complex behaviors—feeding, bonding, and survival. I use slow shutter speeds to highlight the motion of the wings and high-contrast composition to emphasize their stature. This is conservation photography at heart. By bringing these images into your home or office, you are not just hanging art; you are keeping the conversation about our threatened wetlands and forests alive.

Each print is an archival pigment or premium canvas piece, hand-signed to guarantee authenticity. I handle the entire process, from the field capture to the final framing, ensuring that the colours—like the pink pouches of a pelican or the golden light on a crane—remain as vibrant as the moment I witnessed them.
