Fine Art Photography of Wild Creatures
Beyond the giants, there is a hidden world of smaller beings. These photographs explore the spirit and intricate detail of creatures often missed in the wild.
While searching for wolves in Bhigwan, I spotted this magnificent Jungle Cat in a pomegranate orchard. Its intense, mystical gaze is characteristic of wild felines, guardians of the spirit world who hold their freedom sacred.
A Red-whiskered Bulbul, often considered a messenger of peace and joy, is captured mid-landing. These common neighborhood birds have much to share in their chatter if we only pause to listen.
A Yellow-browed Bulbul in the Thattekad forest. The sounds of nature are precious, and this film is a reminder that if we don't protect these habitats, we may soon be left with only the sounds of human activity.
The Flameback Woodpecker, with its brilliant red crown, peeks out from behind a post next to a vibrant flower. This shot was a result of a long, patient wait in a photography hide in the Thattekad forest.
Can you spot the hidden creature? A Scops Owl is perfectly camouflaged against the bark of a tree. Nature's mysteries are all around us, waiting to be discovered by a patient and observant eye.
A moment of symbiosis in Ranthambore. A Rufous Treepie cleans ticks and pests from the face of a Spotted Deer, a perfect example of the cooperative relationships that exist throughout the natural world.
A Malabar Grey Hornbill catches a berry in the golden morning light of Thattekad. These birds are vital "indicator species" for forest health, playing a crucial role in seed dispersal for many trees.
A Malabar Starling enjoys a refreshing bath, with water droplets frozen in time around it. This high-speed shot captures the pure joy and energy of a simple, natural moment.
Another look at the incredible camouflage of the Scops Owl. It blends so seamlessly into the tree that it becomes a part of the wood itself, a true master of disguise.
This film follows an Osprey on its fishing expedition over the wetlands of Navi Mumbai. It's a story of survival in a habitat that is under constant threat from urban development.
About Creatures of the Wild
Many of these images were captured using specialized hide photography techniques, allowing me to be completely still in nature. Whether in the Thattekad forests or the Navi Mumbai wetlands, the goal is never just the shot, but the connection I feel with the subject as I wait for the perfect light.
Photography is my meditation. When I am in the field, I am not just observing; I am breathing with the forest and waiting for the subject to reveal its true energy. My approach combines technical patience with a deep respect for the habitat. Using Fujifilm mirrorless systems with telephoto lenses up to 600mm, I aim to capture images that feel more like paintings than mere snapshots. This is why I focus on slow shutter speeds, natural reflections, and the interplay of light.
Conservation Through the Lens
These smaller creatures, from the woodpecker to the starling, are indicator species for our ecosystem's health. The disappearance of wetlands or forest patches is not just a loss of scenery; it is a loss of life. I believe photography is a tool for advocacy, giving a voice to the voiceless inhabitants of our wild spaces.
Fine Art Prints for Your Space
Many of these captures are available as large-format, archival-quality fine art prints, suitable for homes or offices. Each print comes with a signed certificate of authenticity and a narrative story card about the subject, ensuring the piece you display carries the same spirit I felt in the moment of capture. If you are interested in a specific piece for your collection, we can discuss the framing and size options that best fit your space.
