A journey into the wild, where every frame is a meditation. Explore these cherished encounters, from the wetlands of Navi Mumbai to the forests of Corbett.

This is my interpretation of the energy and movement of a flamingo courtship dance, captured using a slow shutter speed to create a painterly effect. For me, photography is not just about freezing a moment, but about conveying the spirit and motion of life itself. This fine art piece, "Flamingo Frenzy," was featured in the Best of Sanctuary Asia Photoawards.

Locking eyes with a tiger in the wild is a profound experience. This young cub from the Dhikala zone of Corbett was just beginning to assert its presence. The forest always offers these unexpected, soul-stirring encounters if you are patient and present.

"Stillness." On a misty morning on the Bhadra river, a lone darter perched, waiting for the day to unfold. This black and white photograph, which was nominated at the 19th International BW Spider Awards, captures the minimalist beauty and meditative quiet I seek in nature.

In the grasslands of Bhigwan, I met this Indian Grey Wolf. The directness of its gaze was captivating, a silent communication beyond words. It sat with a calm authority, a wild spirit that reminded me of the ancestors of our domestic companions.

To witness the giants of Amboseli walk against the backdrop of a snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro is to see a timeless portrait of Africa. I followed this bull elephant for an hour, waiting for this perfect alignment of creature and landscape, a moment where the scale of nature leaves you in complete awe.

Sarus cranes mate for life, and capturing this pair in the golden morning mist at Nalsarovar felt like witnessing a sacred bond. Their loyalty and grace are a powerful lesson from the natural world, presented here in the soft, painterly light of dawn.

The Oriental Darter, or snake bird, is a master of patience and precision. This film, shot in the low light of Bharatpur, shows the culmination of a long wait. The explosive speed, honed by daily practice, is a lesson in focus and seizing the fleeting moment.

Being asked by Sanctuary Asia to create a photo story on the flamingos of Navi Mumbai was a full-circle moment for me. This video shares my journey and the critical conservation message behind the images, giving a voice to these birds and their threatened wetland habitat.

About Featured

Photography here is not just about clicking a button; it is a practice of dharna, or concentration. Whether I am slowing the shutter speed to paint the movement of flamingos in Navi Mumbai or waiting hours for a tiger's gaze in Corbett, my approach captures the subject's energy rather than just their form. These images are an invitation to breathe with the wild and sense the light in every frame.

My Approach: The Living Lens

I view my camera as a bridge between the soul and nature. This collection represents my most meaningful encounters, where I have moved beyond simple documentation to capture the 'conscious energy' of my subjects. When you look at the flamingo courtship dance or the misty silhouette of a darter, you are seeing moments I experienced through a meditative lens.

Why These Subjects Matter

My work focuses on the intersection of fine art and conservation. The images you see here, ranging from the endangered Lesser Flamingos of the Navi Mumbai wetlands to the majestic tigers of Corbett, are intended to do more than look beautiful on a wall. They are visual advocacy. My photography is a way to speak for the voiceless, drawing attention to habitats like the mangroves and wetlands that remain under constant threat of development.

Technical Artistry

I rely on Fujifilm mirrorless systems, often utilizing telephoto lenses up to 600mm to maintain distance, ensuring the wildlife remains undisturbed. I value 'straight out of camera' color fidelity, using advanced techniques like slow shutter speeds to convey motion blur in bird behavior, or capturing the stark, minimalist beauty of black and white silhouettes in the morning mist.

Whether you are looking for a framed fine art print for your home, a mentorship session to refine your own gaze, or simply a deeper connection to nature through storytelling, I welcome you to engage with these moments. If a particular image resonates with you, I am happy to discuss the story behind the shot or how we can collaborate on conservation storytelling.

I am Sreekumar. For me, photography is not about the perfect shot; it is about the soul-level connection I feel with the wild. Whether it is the stillness of a darter on the Bhadra river or the frenzy of a flamingo dance, I capture the energy of the moment to give a voice to nature.
