I bring the soulful artistry of my Kashmiri roots into your living space. From Khatambandh ceilings to delicate Sozni embroidery motifs, we weave heritage into every design detail.

Woodcarving is a hallmark of Kashmiri craftsmanship. Here you see artisans intricately carving floral and paisley designs into wooden boxes. We incorporate this detailed craft into furniture, panels, and doors to bring a touch of heritage to modern homes.

Pinjarakari is the art of creating intricate geometric latticework by joining small pieces of wood. This technique, often used in screens and panels, allows for beautiful plays of light and shadow, adding a delicate, artistic element to our interiors.

Khatambandh is a unique craft of creating ceilings by fitting small, faceted pieces of wood together without nails. We use this stunning technique to create dramatic and artistic ceilings that become a major focal point in a room.

Sozni is a fine and delicate form of hand embroidery, renowned for its exquisite detail. We draw inspiration from this textile art, incorporating its motifs and precision into our designs to add a layer of softness and cultural richness.

Handwoven Kashmiri carpets are luxurious and famed for their intricate floral designs. We often use these as a foundation for a room's design, drawing colors and patterns from them to create a cohesive and opulent space.

Here, we showcase the revival of the traditional Pachhikari craft, an intricate inlay technique using semi-precious stones. I believe luxury lies in handcrafted work, and we use this art form to create stunning, timeless pieces for contemporary homes.

About The Art of Craft: Our Kashmiri Heritage

Integrating heritage crafts into a modern footprint is not just about aesthetics; it is about engineering. When we install a Khatambandh ceiling or lay Pachhikari stone inlays, the process requires immense precision—much like deciding on the edge thickness or proportions of a custom wardrobe. We do not just place these elements as decorations. We ensure they are structurally balanced and integrated, making sure your home feels authentic rather than like a museum display.

My design philosophy at Walnut is rooted in the belief that luxury is defined by the time and human touch invested in a space. Growing up in Kashmir, these crafts were part of my daily life, and today, I translate them into luxury residential projects across India.

Why Heritage Crafts Work in Modern Settings

  • Khatambandh: This technique of joining small, faceted pieces of wood without nails creates dramatic ceilings that provide depth and warmth to living and dining areas.
  • Pachhikari (Stone Inlay): We use this to elevate standard marble surfaces, embedding semi-precious stones to create floral or geometric patterns that act as the centerpiece of a room.
  • Sozni & Pinjarakari: We draw on the motifs of Sozni embroidery for wall textures and use Pinjarakari latticework for room dividers that play with light and shadow throughout the day.

The Practical Side of Heritage

We don't just design the look; we handle the execution. Whether it is sourcing the right wood for a hand-carved panel or ensuring the stone inlay fits perfectly with your flooring, my team and I are on-site to oversee the details. We blend these traditional elements with contemporary requirements like smart lighting and ergonomic layouts. The result is a space that respects the past while functioning perfectly for your modern lifestyle. It is about creating a home that tells your story through the warmth of Indian craftsmanship.
