This video shows the creation of my conceptual piece on the Pahalgam attack. The process was emotional, from sketching the figures to adding the red ink, symbolizing the tragedy. Art is my way of processing and commenting on such events.
About Art with a Message
When I create a narrative piece, I often use a mix of charcoal for the structure and selective color, like the red ink seen in my recent work, to pull focus to the emotional core of the drawing. This technique allows the charcoal to handle the realistic details while the color highlights the specific story I am trying to tell, making the final piece hit harder.
For me, a sketch is never just a collection of lines on paper. It is an outlet. When I work on conceptual narrative pieces, I start by visualizing the core emotion or message before picking up a pencil. Whether it is a social commentary or a personal reflection, the composition is carefully planned to ensure the viewer feels what I felt while drawing it.
My conceptual sketches typically utilize graphite and charcoal to ground the scene in realism, but I add selective color accents, such as red ink or gold paint, to emphasize key elements. This approach ensures that the narrative remains the primary focus. I work on 200 to 250 GSM paper to give these drawings the longevity they deserve.
