The Artistic Process: How I Create My Digital Caricatures
Ever wonder how a simple photo turns into a lively character illustration? Watch my step-by-step process, from the first rough digital sketch to the final colorful piece.
This process video breaks down how a simple portrait caricature is created. It starts with mapping out the facial features and hair, followed by clean line work, and finally adding color and shading for depth.
Watch how a big, joyful smile is captured in this caricature creation video. I focus on exaggerating the expression to bring out the subject's happy personality, turning a photo into a lively piece of art.
About The Artistic Process: From Photo to Art
I work primarily in a digital medium, which gives you the flexibility to print your artwork on everything from posters to mugs. When you commission a piece, I start by analyzing your reference photo to capture the key expressions, followed by a rough sketch. You get a high-resolution 300 DPI file, and I always include two rounds of minor edits to make sure the caricature truly feels like the subject.
My process is all about balancing the technical side of digital art with the fun, exaggerated personality of a caricature. Here is how we usually move from a concept to a final file:
-
The Reference: Everything starts with a clear, high-resolution photo. I look for the unique traits that make the subject stand out—a wide grin, specific glasses, or a certain hairstyle.
-
The Sketch: I begin by mapping out the facial structure digitally. In this stage, I lean into my Ghibli-inspired style, focusing on clean lines and expressive, oversized features that bring out the happiness in the photo.
-
Line Work & Color: Once the sketch is approved, I clean up the lines and start the coloring process. I focus on vibrant palettes that add depth and a bit of 'hasyache karanje' (a burst of laughter) to the final look.
-
Final Polish: After the shading and color correction, I deliver the final artwork as both a JPEG and a transparent PNG. This means you have a high-quality file that is ready for framing or digital sharing.
Whether you are looking for a simple head-and-shoulders bust or a complex full-body scene with props, the goal is always the same: to create a piece of art that makes you smile. Because I am based in Kasba Peth, I work with clients across India, delivering all my final files digitally.
