Cinematic Black & White Photography in Mumbai
These frames are where I strip away the noise. Just light, shadow, and the raw emotion of the moment. My personal projects are about capturing the person behind the pose.
From my personal series 'Rafta', this black and white portrait captures a quiet, contemplative moment. The soft, natural light highlights the model's profile and the traditional jhumka earring, creating a timeless and soulful image.
A diptych from the 'Rafta' series, showing the beauty in candid, in-between moments. The black and white film aesthetic adds a sense of nostalgia and focuses on the simple elegance of the model's gesture and silver bangles.
About Personal Projects & Moods
When I shoot series like 'Rafta', I drop the entire production crew. It’s just me, the camera, and the subject finding the rhythm. You see those deep shadows in the gallery? That’s not post-production magic. That’s chasing the light until the frame feels quiet, honest, and completely real.
Why do I shoot personal projects? Because commercial work often demands perfection, but personal work demands truth. When I am shooting a black and white portrait, I am looking for the things that usually get lost in a full-scale advertising setup: the tiny gesture of a hand, the way a model fixes their hair, or how they move when they think no one is watching.
The Technique Behind the Mood
My obsession with light doesn't stop when I leave the studio. I apply the same technical discipline to these personal projects as I do to high-end jewellery campaigns. Whether it is using the natural catchlight on a Mumbai street or sculpting a face with harsh, directional window light, the goal remains the same: create a frame that stops you in your tracks.
Why This Matters for Your Project
When you hire me for your brand or portrait session, you are not just getting someone to click a button. You are hiring someone who trains his eye every single day. The same sensibility that goes into these artistic, moody explorations is what I bring to your shoot.
- No distractions: I use monochrome and high-contrast lighting to remove the clutter, forcing the eye to focus on texture and emotion.
- Directing with instinct: I don't give generic instructions. I talk to you, guide you, and find your rhythm so the photo feels like you, not a mannequin.
- Visual storytelling: Even in a single image, I am looking for the start, middle, and end of a narrative.
If you are looking for an image that tells a story rather than just showing a product, let’s talk. I don't do boring, and I definitely don't do cookie-cutter.

I’m Shreyans. I don’t believe in over-planning the soul out of a photograph. When I’m not running commercial campaigns, I’m out in Mumbai finding frames that actually feel like something.
