Art with Heart: Community and Outreach Workshops
Art is a way to share joy and spark connection. Through these community workshops, we take the canvas outside the studio to schools, NGOs, and hospitals, believing that everyone deserves the chance to create.
My `dhyey` or purpose is to share the healing power of art. It was a true blessing to conduct an eco-friendly Ganesha workshop for the little cancer bravehearts at Accesslife. For a few hours, art helped them forget their pain, and their smiles were the real `tapassya ka phal`.
The energy and excitement at our Christmas-themed workshop for an NGO were incredible. It was a beautiful way to kick-start the festive season with these enthusiastic children.
Art as therapy works best. This video is from a Mother's Day celebration where we conducted an art workshop for children battling cancer. Colors and creation can take them away from their pain, even for a little while.
Spreading awareness about eco-friendly Bappa, one school at a time. In one day, we helped students from two different schools make 120 idols, in association with the Rotary Club of Seaface.
The children of Vanita Vishram school showed so much enthusiasm and curiosity during our eco-friendly Ganesha workshop. It was a pleasure to be invited by the Rotary Club of Bombay Seaface for this event.
When a group of moms decided to paint Bappa at their kitty party, the vibe turned beautifully devotional. I loved their enthusiasm and dedication to creating their artwork.
About Art with Heart: Community Outreach
When I conduct these outreach workshops, the goal is never the final painting; it is the two hours of relief or focus we find together. Whether we are sculpting eco-friendly Ganpati idols with school children or hosting art therapy sessions for bravehearts at Access Life, my team and I bring all the materials, setup, and cleanup, ensuring the hosts only need to provide the space and the enthusiasm.
We believe art has a unique power to bridge gaps and offer comfort. Over the years, I have had the privilege of taking my classes to spaces where they are needed most—from cancer care centers to local schools in Juhu and across Mumbai. These sessions are designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of skill or physical ability.
What We Offer
We structure these sessions to be inclusive and therapeutic. For our eco-friendly Ganpati workshops, we teach the ball-and-coil sculpting technique, ensuring children and adults alike can take home a Bappa they created with their own hands. In our hospital and NGO collaborations, we focus on sensory-friendly activities, using soft acrylics and guided demonstrations to reduce anxiety and encourage self-expression.
Planning an Outreach Event
If you are a school, an NGO, or a community group looking to host an art-based awareness drive or a therapeutic session, we make the logistics seamless. We bring everything from the clay, brushes, and aprons to the newspaper for the tables. We handle the setup and ensure the workspace is left exactly as we found it, so you can focus on the experience rather than the mess.
Local Impact
We have collaborated with the Rotary Club of Bombay Seaface to reach hundreds of students in a single day, proving that art is a powerful tool for social awareness. If you have a specific cause or a community group that could use a touch of color and creativity, let’s talk about how we can make it happen together.
Shefali Raj
I have been teaching since 1988, but my students have taught me more than I could ever give them. I see art as a form of therapy and a way to heal. I don't believe in pressure or perfection—I believe in finding your own voice through colors and clay.
