Community Living: Multi-Dwelling Architecture
I design residential complexes that balance high-density requirements with deep, biophilic connections. My approach creates spaces where architecture facilitates community interaction through shared greenery and thoughtful planning.
The 'Poetree' apartment complex in Bangalore, where community spaces are given as much importance as private homes. The circular seating around the tree is designed to encourage residents to gather and connect.

About Community Living: Apartments & Villaments
True community living is not just about shared walls, but about shared experiences. In projects like Poetree, I intentionally design central courtyards and circular gathering spots to pull residents out of their private units and into the landscape, ensuring that the space between buildings is as valuable as the interior floor plan.
Designing for urban density does not require sacrificing quality of life. My approach to multi-dwelling architecture, whether for apartments or row houses like Elevana, centers on creating a seamless transition between the private home and the public realm.
The Role of Landscape in Density
In a crowded IT corridor, the challenge is to reclaim the ground. We utilize landscape not as a decorative afterthought, but as the primary infrastructure that connects buildings. By placing green walkways, central courtyards, and communal seating areas at the heart of the project, we encourage spontaneous social interaction. This strategy creates a breathable urban fabric that contrasts with the typical, concrete-heavy residential blocks found in cities like Bengaluru and Coimbatore.
Materiality and Sensory Experience
Architecture affects our emotional state. We select materials for their tactile quality and ability to age gracefully. You will see this in the use of corten steel for signage, fluted concrete panels for rhythmic facades, and textured finishes that invite touch. Our design philosophy incorporates colourful and sensorial materials to stimulate positive emotions, ensuring that the building environment feels alive rather than static.
Biophilic Design Principles
We rely on passive techniques to ensure the longevity and comfort of our community projects:
- Passive Cooling: Strategic orientation and open layouts promote natural cross-ventilation.
- Vertical Integration: We weave green zones into the building volumes, allowing light and air to penetrate deep into the complex.
- Spatial Efficiency: We optimize floor plans to minimize circulation space, maximizing the functional area within each unit without compromising on light or privacy.
By prioritizing the user's sensory relationship with their surroundings, we turn standard housing units into cohesive, functional communities.
