About Couture Jackets: Wearable Art
Every jacket I create balances the weight of heavy embroidery against structural integrity. I often fuse liquid-metal fabrics or velvet with industrial hardware, which means the fitting process is vital to ensure the piece maintains its sharp shape while allowing you to move naturally.
When you wear a couture jacket from my studio, you are wearing a narrative. I work with velvet, liquid-metal treated fabrics, and structured wool to create forms that hold their own. My process relies on a framework of chaos and order. I start with an abstract concept, perhaps the solitude of an astronaut or the balance found in a butterfly, and apply heavy surface work like glass beads and metallic threads.
Because these pieces involve significant ornamentation, the internal structure is crucial. I use half-canvas or full-canvas construction to ensure the jacket maintains a sharp shoulder and waist definition, regardless of the embroidery weight. We work out of my Defence Colony studio in New Delhi, where I meet clients for an initial consultation to discuss their vision. Whether you are looking for a tuxedo for a red carpet event or a statement piece for a milestone celebration, the path from sketch to final stitch involves multiple fittings to ensure a fit that feels like a second skin.
