An inside look at our research-backed approach to architecture, blending indigenous Northeast Indian techniques with modern hybrid timber and biophilic design.

This master bedroom from my 'Aangan' project embodies my design philosophy. It opens up to an internal courtyard, blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors and creating a private sanctuary filled with natural light and greenery. This is biophilic design in practice, a home that breathes with you.

This is 'The Hyber', a 1:5 scale model of a six-story hybrid timber building I developed. Exhibited at the Godrej Conscious Collective, it showcases a glue-free timber construction system inspired by indigenous techniques from Northeast India, designed for a sustainable, low-carbon future.

Here I am at the Conscious Collective, explaining the concept behind 'The Hyber'. My research focuses on adapting the time-tested, seismic-responsive building methods of Northeast India for modern, multi-story applications, making timber a viable material for urban construction.

The completed roof of a yoga hall, inspired by the work of the great architect Revathi Kamath. This intricate, spiraling bamboo structure with a central skylight shows the incredible potential of bamboo as both a structural and aesthetic material in sustainable building.

A walk-through of the double-height living room in the 'Aangan' house. The space is designed to feel expansive and connected to the outdoors, with a feature wall made from upcycled pine tree logs and large windows that open to a green terrace.

This exploded diagram details the hybrid timber construction system. It shows how natural timber components connect without glue, integrating with a concrete core and bamboo facade panels to create a structure with a significantly lower carbon footprint than conventional buildings.

A view into one of the internal courtyards that give the 'Aangan' house its name and character. Topped with a skylight, this green space acts as the lungs of the home, providing natural light, fresh air, and a constant visual connection to nature for the surrounding rooms.

About Featured

Our hybrid timber system skips the glue entirely, using interlocking joinery inspired by traditional earthquake-responsive structures from Northeast India. This approach allows us to build frames that are structurally sound, carbon-negative, and free of the chemicals often found in modern construction adhesives.
