Cinematic Urban & Lifestyle Portraits in Mumbai

Mumbai is full of chaos and incredible backdrops. I love capturing your style against the city's texture, focusing on authentic moments, natural light, and that moody, film-like vibe.

An urban portrait where I experimented with a teal and orange color grade. The location was a simple rooftop, but the colors give it a distinct, moody vibe.

The same portrait in black and white. Removing the color helps to focus entirely on the expression, light, and shadows, giving the photo a classic, timeless feel.

A portrait taken against a window with a barred frame. I used the natural light and the grid pattern to create an interesting composition with a soft, cinematic color palette.

The black and white version of the previous shot. This edit emphasizes the contrast and texture, creating a more dramatic and moody portrait.

A silhouette-style portrait using a bright, blown-out background. I love playing with deep shadows in my editing to create a high-contrast, artistic look.

The same silhouette portrait in black and white. This version really highlights the form and shape of the subject against the bright background.

A spontaneous and joyful portrait taken from a train window. These candid, in-between moments often make for the most memorable and personality-filled photos.

About this collection

I shoot these portraits with a 35mm Art lens to get that sharp focus and buttery background bokeh, usually timing our session around golden hour to catch the best light. Whether we are using a gritty rooftop, a quiet heritage street, or just a random Mumbai alley, I focus on posing that feels natural, not stiff. I keep the raw files and then spend a lot of time on color grading, specifically to make sure those deep shadows look cinematic and intentional.

My Approach to Urban Portraits

Most people hate photoshoots because they feel forced. My goal is to make it feel like we are just hanging out, with a camera in between. If you are looking for stiff, 'look at the camera and smile' shots, I am probably not the guy for you. But if you want photos that feel like a movie frame—moody, colorful, and actually authentic—then let's talk.

The Technical Side

I’m a total nerd about this part. I shoot RAW so I can keep every piece of detail, especially in the shadows. When we edit, I use frequency separation for skin retouching to polish the texture without plasticizing your face. Then, I apply film-inspired color grading in DaVinci Resolve to get that teal and orange balance or deep, moody contrast. It’s all about creating a vibe that matches your personality.

Where We Shoot

Mumbai is endless. I’m comfortable working in anything from crowded train stations to rooftops at sunset. If you have a specific spot in mind that means something to you, tell me. If not, I always have a list of cool, low-key spots across the city that I’m dying to shoot at. Just bring your outfits, and I’ll handle the light, the composition, and the vibes.

Hey, I’m Rahul. I spend most of my time chasing stories in Mumbai’s chaos or hiding out on random mountain trips. I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to editing—honestly, I spend way too many hours getting those shadows just right—but I promise the results are worth it.
