Exposed Brick Residence Design in HSR Layout
A study in texture and climate-responsive architecture, this HSR Layout project showcases how exposed brick and thoughtful massing can create a modern, breathable home.
The angled brickwork on the facade is designed to catch light and shadow throughout the day. This artistic detail, seen here against a blooming tree, adds a layer of craft and visual interest to the building's exterior.
A street-level view of the completed residence, showing the interplay between the textured brick upper floor and the recessed ground level. This design choice creates a covered parking area while giving the upper volume a floating appearance.
Another perspective of the HSR residence, framed by local greenery. The combination of exposed brick, smooth concrete bands, and the surrounding trees showcases our commitment to creating architecture that feels connected to its place.
About Project Spotlight: HSR Brick Residence
This HSR residence demonstrates how exposed brick handles Bangalore’s climate while adding warmth to a modern structure. The intricate jaali patterns aren't just for appearance, as they actively control light and airflow across the facade, grounding the home in its urban environment.
Designing this HSR Layout residence required a balance between privacy and permeability. The site demanded a solution that could handle the intensity of Bangalore’s sun while maintaining a connection to the streetscape.
We started with hand sketches to determine the spatial flow, focusing on how the building interacts with the site. The exposed brick facade was chosen for its thermal mass properties, which provide natural cooling. The intricate jaali patterns were calculated to filter harsh sunlight while allowing for cross-ventilation, a core principle in our green building approach.
The structure’s visual weight is offset by the recessed ground level, which creates a covered parking area and gives the upper volumes a floating appearance. This technique is something we often employ to make dense urban plots feel more open and connected to the landscape.
At RNG Architects, we believe a successful project relies on a strong partnership between the architect and the client. This residence is a result of that collaboration, where the design intent remained clear from the initial sketches through to the final execution on-site.
