The Kadambini Residence: Minimalist Brick Home Design in Nagarbhavi
A study in light and volume. We transformed a compact 30x40 plot into a home defined by its bold, textured brick facade and serene, light-filled interiors.
The sole design element of this home's exterior is the solid mass of brick, which stands still and bold. The dynamic play of light and volumes is revealed only once you step inside.
The custom nameplate for "Kadambini" reflects the home's simple yet elegant design ethos. The brick facade provides a textured backdrop, creating a warm and welcoming entrance.
At night, the custom nameplate is highlighted by a single spotlight, casting beautiful shadows and emphasizing the texture of the compound wall.
The simple, panelled gate and grey compound wall were intentionally designed to draw the eye upward towards the intricate brickwork of the main facade.
Clean lines and simple planning were used to derive the elevational features of this home, ensuring the focus remains on the texture and color of the brick facade.
The minimalist exterior design of the home creates a strong contrast against the neighboring architectural fabric, making it a unique landmark on the street.

About this collection
The standout feature here is the custom brick facade, which does more than just look good. We designed this screen to filter harsh sunlight while maintaining complete privacy for the balcony, creating a soft, ventilated space where you can actually relax. It is proof that a bold exterior choice can significantly improve the comfort of your living space.
When we take on a project on a tight 30x40 foot site, the challenge is often balancing the need for privacy with the desire for open, airy spaces. For the Kadambini Residence in Nagarbhavi, we looked to the traditional 'jali' or screen for inspiration but gave it a modern, sculptural interpretation.
The Facade as a Filter
Instead of a solid wall, we created a dynamic brick skin. This structure isn't just about aesthetics; it serves a functional purpose. During the day, the gaps between the bricks allow air to circulate freely, keeping the balcony cool, while filtering direct light into a gentle pattern of shadows that moves across the floor. This provides the home with a sense of enclosure without it feeling like a bunker.
Minimalist Integrity
Inside, we kept the material palette restrained to let the architectural elements speak. By using white surfaces against the warmth of the natural brick, we created a clean, minimalist environment. The focus remains on the interplay of light and volume, ensuring that every corner of the home feels connected to the rest.
Why This Approach Works
Many city homes struggle with the 'fishbowl effect,' where windows look directly into a neighbor's property. By prioritizing these architectural screens, we ensure the residents enjoy a sanctuary that feels protected, ventilated, and visually striking from both the street and the interior. This project demonstrates our core belief that even the smallest plots can accommodate ambitious design if the planning is intentional.
