Bowling Masterclass
Build a powerful, injury-free bowling action. From run-up mechanics to the final release, learn how to generate real pace with proper technique.
It all starts with the basics. I am showing a young bowler how to use his body in the bowling action, ensuring he gets the right knee drive and arm position. Getting the fundamentals right early is very important.
Here you can see the progression of a bowler working on his run-up. We use hurdles and markers to ensure a consistent and explosive approach to the crease. Every step is a work in progress.
This is the moment of release for a young fast bowler. You can see the energy transferring from his jump into the action. Building this explosive power is what we train for.
The follow-through is just as important as the run-up. A proper follow-through not only helps maintain speed but also reduces the stress on your body, preventing injuries down the line.
Look at the commitment in this action. A fast bowler has to give everything on every single ball. This is the kind of intensity I expect from my players.
This image captures the raw effort of fast bowling. The body is in a powerful position, showing the result of countless hours of strength and conditioning work.
The initial phase of a bowling action where the bowler gathers momentum. This is a critical part of the sequence that sets up the entire delivery.
Every fast bowler will understand this feeling. It is a tough job and your body is almost never at 100 percent. Learning to manage your body and knowing what works for you is a skill in itself.
About Bowling Masterclass
A fast bowler's biggest enemy isn't the batter; it’s poor technique leading to injury. In this program, I focus heavily on your run-up mechanics and the loading phase. We use video analysis to spot where you're losing energy before you even reach the crease, ensuring that when you release the ball, every ounce of power is going into the delivery.
Many bowlers think pace comes from trying harder, but it actually comes from efficiency. If your run-up is inconsistent, your release point will be all over the place. Here is how we break it down at the academy:
The Run-Up and Loading Phase
We start with the basics. A stable, rhythmic approach is the foundation. I watch your initial movement and the gathering phase to ensure your momentum is moving toward the stumps, not drifting sideways.
The Release and Follow-Through
This is where the magic happens. We focus on front leg block and high-arm action to get that extra zip off the surface. A proper follow-through is not just for style—it is how you dissipate the force and keep your back and shoulders safe. You will learn to manage your body, because as every fast bowler knows, the job is tough and the body is rarely at 100 percent.
Beyond Technique
Cricket is a game of the mind. We train for intensity. Expect to work on your strength, endurance, and the mental toughness required to bowl that crucial final over. Whether you are a beginner or looking to make it to the MCA club level, the focus is always on improvement, not just timepass.
