A visual collection of my lecture-demonstrations and deep-dive sessions. See where we’ve gathered to break down the complex arithmetic and soul of Carnatic music.

An alternate poster for my inaugural workshop in Chennai, hosted by Namba Aathu Katcheri.

Another version of the workshop announcement poster for my Chennai LecDem.

The poster for my Carnatic Deep Dive sessions at the Nisarga ArtHub in Kerala.

The poster detailing the second session of my workshop, focusing on melding `layam` and melody in Swarakalpana.

The poster for the first session of my workshop, which covered methods to generate more richness in Alapana.

About this collection

These posters capture more than just event dates. They represent the specific themes I have explored with fellow musicians—everything from the structure of an Alapana to the delicate balance between rhythm and melody. If you have wondered what goes into a Lec-Dem or a Veenopasana intensive, these visuals provide a glimpse into the curriculum and the spaces where we get down to the real work.

I often get asked about the difference between a typical concert and these workshops. A performance is the finished product, but these sessions are the honest, often messy process behind it. Whether we are at a community space in Chennai or an art hub in Kerala, the goal is always to move past the surface and tackle the practical constraints of playing.

In my Lec-Dems, we focus on theory as a gateway to expression. We dissect Swarakalpana, look for frameworks to build Sangathis, and discuss how to mask the Kanakku (mathematics) within the melody so it feels organic rather than rigid. The posters here show the evolution of these discussions, from broad introductory topics to intense, specific breakdowns of Layam and melody.

For those attending the Veenopasana sessions or private mentorships, the approach shifts. We move from discussion to discipline—focusing on Gamaka Shuddham, fretboard stamina, and the technical control required to make the Veena sing without relying on amplification. If you are looking to understand the mechanics behind the music, these event snapshots should give you a clear idea of the topics I enjoy dissecting with students.

I have always believed that music is a shared exploration, not a solo path. These posters capture the moments where I have had the privilege of dissecting raga and rhythm with fellow students and musicians. If you are ready to dive into the technical details behind the sound, I would love to guide you.
