My Artistic Journey: A Life in Movement
This is not just a performance list. It is a look at my growth as an artist, from solo practice to cultural productions, and the mentors who shaped my path.
A moment of gratitude on stage. My journey has been shaped by wonderful mentors who have guided me from online classes to being part of a full production process.
A solo exploration of movement and shadow. In these moments of practice, I experiment with form and feeling, using a simple red veil to create new stories.
The blur of a spin during a solo practice session. This is where I lose myself in the flow and find new expressions, turning feelings into movement.
A proud moment celebrating my graduation in Hindustani classical music. For me, all art is connected, and this journey into music has deepened my understanding of dance.
Holding my certificate and award, dressed in a traditional poshak. These moments of accomplishment are a blessing and a reminder of the beautiful path I am on.
Receiving my graduation certificate from my guru. I am blessed to have the right teachers and guidance on my journey, and I am thankful for the gift of their knowledge.
Dripping in circles. This is a glimpse into my solo practice, a quiet conversation between me and the dance, exploring movement in its simplest form.
About this collection
Growing as an artist is as much about the hours spent alone in a studio as it is about the applause on stage. My journey has been defined by a constant cycle of learning—from online mentorships to classical music graduations—that informs every movement I teach. If you are looking to understand the 'why' behind the dance before you learn the 'how', this perspective is what I bring to every workshop and choreography session.
For me, art is not a destination but a continuous process. My path has been shaped by the discipline of Hindustani classical music and the raw, earthy energy of Rajasthani folk. You will notice that my approach to movement is never just about getting the steps right. It is about the 'nazrana' (offering) of the artist.
When I transitioned from solo explorations to producing 'Padharo Mhare Des' with a team of 16, I learned that a performance is only as strong as the intent behind it. This is the philosophy I bring to my classes at DSide in Indiranagar. Whether we are practicing Kalbelia hip isolations or focusing on the grace required for Ghoomar, the goal is always to connect with the music.
I see many students come in looking for a quick fix or a trendy routine. I encourage them to slow down. We dedicate time to hand mudras, footwork synchronization, and the spiritual gaze that makes these traditional forms so powerful. If you are preparing for a wedding, we move beyond generic steps. I help you handle heavy costumes like traditional poshaks, ensuring your posture and eye contact reflect the regal nature of the dance.
My goal is to create a community where everyone feels part of a family. Whether you are a total beginner or someone returning to dance, you will find space here to learn and grow. If you have been searching for a dance teacher in Bengaluru who emphasizes culture and technique over fast-paced choreography, I invite you to join a session.
Pooja Rajpurohit
I am Pooja, and for me, dance is a way to stay connected to my Rajasthani roots. Whether I am teaching a group workshop or coaching a bride for her wedding day, I focus on the storytelling and the 'vishvaas' (belief) that makes every movement real.
