About Pencil Sketching & Shading
We don't aim for perfect drawings from day one, but we do teach the real mechanics of light and shadow. Students learn to handle professional sketching pencils to create texture and depth, turning simple objects like bottles, drapery, and fruit into realistic studies.
Pencil sketching is about more than just moving a pencil across paper. It is about observation. In our classes, we teach children how to see light sources and how to replicate them using techniques like hatching, cross-hatching, and blending.
This course is designed specifically for children aged 8 and older. It requires a bit more patience than our regular craft activities, but it helps build incredible focus and hand-eye coordination. We move from simple object studies to more complex compositions, ensuring students understand core concepts like perspective and cast shadows.
We keep our class sizes small, with only 6 to 10 students per session. This allows us to provide semi-private attention, ensuring every child learns to use the right pressure with their HB to 8B pencils and understands how to use a blending stump properly.
Classes are held twice a week, totalling 8 sessions a month, with each session lasting 60 minutes. We provide the reference objects, like vases and glassware, while students bring their own high-GSM sketchbooks and pencils. It is a structured learning environment where the goal is to improve skills, but the atmosphere remains relaxed, encouraging, and full of creative energy.
