About Feel the Connection with Kizomba & Urbankiz

If you are nervous about starting, please don't be. In our Kizomba and Urbankiz sessions, we prioritize the 'Kizomba hug'—that foundational connection with your partner that makes the dance feel natural, not forced. We don't just teach you choreography; we help you understand the lead and follow so you can actually listen to the music and react to your partner, rather than just counting steps in your head.

Why Kizomba and Urbankiz?

Unlike high-intensity cardio dance, Kizomba and the modern Urbankiz style are about grounding yourself. It is a dialogue between two people. You will learn the pisada (the walk) and the marca (the stop), which are the building blocks of the dance. We slow things down so you can focus on the nuances of weight transfer and musicality.

What happens in our classes?

We keep our batches small so that every student gets attention. Whether you join our Club Florence or Club South Patio studio, here is what you can expect:

  • No Partner Necessary: We rotate partners throughout the class. This is the fastest way to learn how to lead or follow with different people, which is exactly how social dancing works.
  • Theory & Practice: We spend the first part of the class on technique and body movement, then spend the rest practicing with music.
  • Social Readiness: We don't just teach inside the studio. Our students are encouraged to join our weekly social nights at local clubs to practice their moves in a real-world setting.

Common Questions

  • Do I need special shoes? Wear comfortable shoes that allow you to pivot easily. You don't need expensive dance gear to start.
  • What if I have two left feet? Kizomba is actually one of the friendliest styles for beginners because it focuses on walking and simple connections rather than complex footwork.
  • Is Urbankiz different? Yes, it is more modern, typically incorporating electronic or hip-hop influences. We teach the fundamentals of both traditional Kizomba and the smoother, more structured Urbankiz style.
