Bharatanatyam Intensive Workshops and Training
This is the essence of my work—Nritya, Kalike, Karma. From intensive weekend workshops and digital classes to our immersive residential retreats in Chikhale, I help you build a solid foundation in Bharatanatyam through discipline and deep focus.
This is the essence of our practice: Nritya, Kalike, Karma. Dance, learning, and action. A glimpse into a focused session where students are completely immersed in the rhythm and discipline of Bharatanatyam.
Leading a workshop is about sharing energy and technique. Here, I am demonstrating a specific posture and movement, guiding students through the nuances of the form before they practice it together. The session ends with a sense of shared accomplishment.
A look inside our residential retreat at Chikhale. It's a space where dance is integrated with nature and daily life. This video shows moments of practice, play, and the simple joys of our modern Gurukula.
We are taking our art to the world. This poster announces our upcoming USA tour with Adithya PV, where we will be premiering new work and conducting intensive workshops for dancers in America.
Practice is a personal conversation with the art form. This is a solo rehearsal of the Kalinga Narthana Devaranama, focusing on the intricate footwork and expressive storytelling that are central to our Bharatanatyam training.
The heart of learning is in the listening and observing. This moment captures the deep concentration and emotional connection, or Bhava, of students as they absorb the details of a lesson.
A personal invitation to our upcoming three day intensive Bharatanatyam workshop in Siliguri. I explain how we structure the sessions for different learning levels, focusing on Nritta, Abhinaya, and interesting compositions.
About this collection
If you are joining one of my intensive workshops, come with the mindset that we will cover ground quickly. We do not just learn steps, we break down Nritta and Abhinaya techniques with a focus on precision and theory. Be prepared to show up 15 minutes early and put in the work, because in my studio, tenacity is worth more than talent.
How We Train
My approach to dance is simple: it is a mix of Nritya (dance), Kalike (learning), and Karma (action). Whether you are a beginner or a professional, the training I offer through the Upadhye School of Dance is built on consistency and clear goals.
Core Training Modes
- Antar Shaala (Online & Offline): Our quarterly term is for those who want a structured, 3-month commitment. You get 12 live, interactive classes—either in person at my NRI Layout studio in Bangalore or over Zoom. You also gain 24/7 access to the Swadhyaya digital video library, ensuring you have the resources to drill steps whenever you have the time.
- Residential Retreats: For those seeking deep immersion, our retreats at Punyah Abhyasa Shaala in Chikhale, Belgaum, offer a complete break from the daily grind. We spend 3 to 4 days focusing solely on practice, conditioning, and theory under the guidance of our senior faculty. It is an off-grid environment where we prioritize shared community living and total focus.
- Weekend Intensives: I frequently conduct weekend bootcamps in cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, and abroad in Europe and the USA. These are designed for students with at least 6 years of experience who want to master specific compositions or advanced technical nuances.
The Real Expectations
My sessions start promptly. I do not sugarcoat the process because the real journey is in the daily practice, not just the performance. We cover fundamental Adavus, full Margam training for experienced dancers, and unique choreographies. The environment is professional yet rooted in the reality of hard work. Whether you are in my Bangalore studio or attending a workshop in a new city, bring your discipline and your curiosity.
Parshwanath Upadhye
I’m Parshwanath. I don’t believe in shortcuts—I spent years working, doubting, and eventually building my own stage, Punyah Theatre. I teach with joy and a bit of fire because I know that the real journey is in the daily grind, not just the applause.
