My Guiding Principles in Criminal Defense
Three decades of practice at the Delhi High Court have taught me that every case requires a fresh perspective. These are the principles that ground my approach to the law.
Standing before the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, a reminder that in law, as in life, the means must always justify the end. This is the core of my ethical approach to criminal defense.
From a struggling first-generation lawyer to a senior advocate, my journey has taught me that humility and hard work are the cornerstones of this profession.
Reflecting on the state of the legal profession. I believe we must constantly strive to uphold its dignity and ensure a level playing field for the next generation of lawyers.
A moment of humor in my library. The amount of reading and research required for every single case never ceases, a discipline I wish I had discovered much earlier in life.
A black and white portrait capturing a moment of thought. My decision to be more active in the bar association comes from a deep-seated belief that we must protect the values of our institution for it to grow.
About My Guiding Principles
I do not believe in recycling old defense strategies. When we meet in my chambers, we look at your FIR and charge-sheet with fresh eyes to identify specific loopholes and statutory contradictions. Whether we are preparing for a bail hearing or final arguments, my focus remains on a fearless, ethical defense that respects the dignity of the court.
A Foundation of Ethics
I began my journey as a first-generation lawyer with nothing but a chair at Tis Hazari. This experience taught me that the law is not just about the outcome. It is about the process. Whether I am handling a high-profile criminal appeal or representing someone pro bono through the Legal Aid Committee, I apply the same level of rigorous preparation.
My Approach to Strategy
My practice is built on a few core pillars:
- No Templates: I do not rely on standard drafts. Each defense is tailored to the specific facts of the case, starting from a careful review of the prosecution evidence.
- Fearless Advocacy: I am comfortable taking a tough stand in court. While I respect the bench, I will not shy away from arguing a point if it is necessary for the justice of the case.
- Focus on Details: A successful defense often hides in the contradictions of witness testimonies or statutory interpretations. I spend significant time reviewing trial court records and precedents to find these nuances.
Access to Justice
I believe justice should not be restricted by one's bank balance. My work with the Delhi High Court often involves assisting those who cannot afford senior counsel. If you are looking for representation that prioritizes integrity and ethical standing above all else, my door is open.
