About Bar Association Leadership & Development

I’ve been a lawyer for over thirty years, and honestly, leading the Bar Association feels like the biggest case of my life. Main sabse pehle vakeel hoon (I’m a lawyer before anything else). I started out with zero connections, so I know how tough it can get for young lawyers trying to find their feet.

Making the Bar Work for Us

  • We’re over 40,000 strong now, but space is always tight. We’ve opened new bar rooms, including bigger spaces for women lawyers.
  • Finding a spot to meet clients after hours was a pain. Now, the canteen stays open till 8 pm, so you’ve got somewhere to work.
  • After losing a colleague, I pushed for a chemist shop right in the court complex. Also, we’re sorting out those annoying Wi-Fi dead zones.

Mentorship & Skill Building

  • I want to break the wall between juniors and seniors. My door’s always open, and I mean it.
  • We’ve started a monthly lecture series with judges and experts, so everyone can keep up with new legal trends.
  • My dream is a ‘Lawyers’ Academy’—a place for real, practical skill development for young lawyers.

Building a Real Community

  • We’re not just about work. Sports like Pickleball, cricket, and badminton are now part of our calendar.
  • When Punjab was hit by floods, we didn’t just send money. We went there, got our hands dirty, and helped rebuild.

Why I Do This

I believe in change and fresh ideas. Tave pe roti aur sarkaar adalti badalti rehni chahiye (Things need to keep changing for progress). I want the Bar to be a place where everyone feels they belong, and nobody gets left behind.

My Story

Hi, I’m Narayanan. Didn’t start off as a lawyer - science grad, tried UPSC, life did its own thing. Landed at Campus Law Centre, Delhi. Nights, I was a journalist at Patriot, days were courts where even getting a seat at Tis Hazari felt like a win. Floods hit my home in Kerala, then my office in Delhi - water everywhere, books lost. So when I see people struggling, sannu lagya yaar, sannu kuch karna hai (I feel it, we have to do something). That’s what keeps me going.

My Work

Criminal Law at Delhi High Court - I’ve been practicing over 30 years as a Senior Advocate, mostly handling tough, sometimes messy cases. No drama, just work.

Pro bono work is non-negotiable - Of every six cases, two or three are pro bono. Har gareeb aadmi ke liye khada hona vakeel ka farz banta hai (It’s a lawyer’s duty to stand for every poor person).

No hierarchy in my chambers - I don’t do junior-senior drama. You want to talk, my door’s open. We’re all learning, every single day.

Fearless, but with dignity - Sometimes you have to take a tough stand in court. Don’t shy away, but always keep your head.
