About Tattoo Cover-Ups & Redesigns
Getting a cover-up is different from a fresh tattoo because we have to map the new design specifically to hide the old one. We usually start by measuring the existing lines to ensure the new stencil is dense enough to block the pigment underneath, which often involves using freehand marker work to adjust the flow so the new tattoo looks completely natural on your skin.
How We Approach Your Cover-Up
At Mumbai Tattoo, we treat cover-ups like engineering. If your old ink is too dark, we do not just put a blob of black over it. We use high-density Triple Black pigments and strategic shading to neutralize the old design. Laser or Cover-Up?
Sometimes, laser fading is the better first step. We offer Q-Switched laser sessions to lighten the old tattoo, giving our artists a clean canvas to work with. This is especially helpful if your old tattoo is very dark and you want a lighter, more intricate design for the cover-up.
