Community and Documentary Portrait Photography

My documentary work relies on capturing subjects in their own space. I avoid heavy staging, focusing instead on natural light and the character of the individual. This approach works for editorial storytelling or personal archives where authenticity is the primary goal.

When documenting a community or a specific project, my goal is to remain unobtrusive. For this series in Dhar, I worked alongside the artisans, allowing them to style themselves in their own garments. This helps maintain the integrity of the subject and the craft. Whether it is a commercial campaign or a personal documentary series, I apply the same principles: finding the best light, respecting the subject’s environment, and ensuring the final image feels timeless rather than staged. I am comfortable working in remote outdoor locations or busy urban settings. My process involves minimal gear to ensure I can move quickly and capture candid moments.
