Studio Sessions & Music Production at MRSAJSTUDIOS
Peek into the lab where Carnatic rhythms meet heavy Afrobeat basslines.
This is from my 'Chai Yard' EP 1 session in NYC. It was a musical journey featuring everything from Reggae and Afrobeats to Amapiano and Indian classics. I’m so grateful for everyone who pulled up and made it a great vibe.
A shot from the studio, where the magic happens. You can see my tabla in the background, which I often use for live percussion in my SA 2 SA tracks. This journey has just begun.
Locked in at the studio, working on new music. This is my happy place, where I can experiment with different sounds and build tracks from scratch. The grind never stops.
Collaboration is key. Here I am in the studio with another artist, working on a track together. Bouncing ideas off other creative people is one of the best parts of the production process.
In the lab cooking up new sounds. This is a typical view from my chair at MRSAJSTUDIOS, surrounded by speakers, keyboards, and a whole lot of inspiration.
Adding a little Desi spice to 50 Cent's 'Just a Little Bit'. This is a quick look at how I create my DJ edits, finding the right Bhangra loop to sit underneath a classic hip-hop acapella.
A work in progress from MRSAJSTUDIOS. Just another day making beats to bop to. Every track starts with an idea, and this is where I bring them to life.
Another candid moment from the studio. Sometimes you just have to get up and feel the beat you're making. The process is just as important as the final product.
My reaction when I was making this 'ethnic drill' beat says it all. Experimenting with different genres like UK drill and adding my own cultural sounds is how I push my production forward.
Staying hydrated in the studio is a must. New vibes are coming soon. This is where I spend most of my time, and I can't wait to share what I've been working on.
About Behind The Music: Studio Sessions
Every session here at MRSAJSTUDIOS starts with a simple goal of finding that specific groove. Whether it is layering live tabla percussion over synthetic log drums or stripping a Bollywood track down to its bare vocals, I focus on the texture. If you want to hear how your track sounds with that AfroDesi treatment, let us talk shop.
The creative process at my studio is about the intersection of cultures. I call it the SA 2 SA movement because it bridges the melodic soul of South Asia with the rhythmic power of South Africa.
When you work with me on a project, we start by deconstructing the sound you have in mind. I use a combination of software and live instrumentation to build the vibe. If you need a Bollywood ballad transformed into an Afrobeat banger, I use stem separation to isolate the key elements before layering in my signature log drums.
For those looking for original compositions, we start from scratch. I lean on my roots in Carnatic music to create unique chord progressions and melodies that you will not find in standard beat libraries. The goal is always to create something organic and raw.
Turnaround for custom edits and remixes is typically 48 to 72 hours, depending on the complexity of the project. I deliver files in both lossless WAV and 320kbps MP3 so you are ready to play them anywhere from club speakers to mobile devices. Whether it is a full track production or a quick mashup for a dance routine, I am down to collaborate.
