About Curls, Waves & Ponytails
Many stylists struggle with curls that drop or frizz within an hour of styling. The secret is not just using a stronger hairspray, it is about mastering the angle of the tong and knowing when to twist versus pull the section for a defined result. In my classes, we use 25mm tongs and specific sectioning techniques to ensure every wave keeps its shape from the start of the event to the finish.
Achieving the Perfect Wave
To get that signature Hollywood wave, you have to control how the hair interacts with the heat tool. When I demonstrate, I always emphasize twisting the section so it lies flat against the tong. This ensures an even distribution of heat and a much smoother, shinier finish. If you are struggling with curls that feel messy, you are likely rushing the sectioning process.
Practical Hacks for Long-Lasting Styles
- The Holding Trick: Use steel clips to hold the curls in place while they cool down completely. This simple step locks in the shape and prevents the hair from losing its bounce.
- Texture Management: For soft, separated waves that do not look sticky, try applying a small amount of thrill wax on your fingertips before running them through the lengths.
- Open Styling: I teach how to use 'G-combs' to open up tight curls, giving you that soft, red-carpet-ready flow without ruining the base structure.
