About Jewelry Styling: Modern & Traditional
Styling jewelry for camera is a different beast than styling for real life. For every campaign I shoot, I handle the macro-adjustments—ensuring the clasp sits correctly, the neckline doesn't fight the necklace, and fabric drapes highlight the metal rather than competing with it. My job is to ensure the piece stays the hero of the frame from every angle.
A lot of my work with brands like Om Jewellers involves balancing the weight of tradition with a modern visual language. Whether we are capturing polki sets for a cocktail event or intricate temple jewellery for a bridal campaign, the process remains consistent. We start with a concept—maybe it is a monochrome look with a black saree to make gold pop, or using a vintage prop to ground a contemporary set—and then build the textures and layers around it.
My approach is about lighting and movement. I work closely with photographers to ensure the texture of the uncut diamonds or the gold filigree is crisp in high-resolution shots. On set, I manage the small headaches—steaming, pinning, and fixing wardrobe malfunctions—so the talent can focus on the performance. My kit is always stocked with the essentials, including safety pins, steamers, and clamps, to fix issues on the fly so we never lose daylight or momentum on set.
