Custom Toughened Glass Pergolas for Modern Outdoor Spaces
I fabricate custom mild steel pergolas with 10mm to 12mm toughened glass, designed to create bright, weather-resistant outdoor living areas on your terrace or patio.
This is a toughened glass pergola project we completed in KR Puram. The video highlights the skilled welding and strong MS structure that forms the base for a modern and weather-resistant outdoor space.
Here is another pergola frame under construction. My team is assembling the pre-painted mild steel sections on the client's terrace, ensuring every piece is perfectly aligned and securely fastened.
This clip shows the initial stages of a pergola installation. You can see the sturdy brown MS frame being erected, which will later be fitted with toughened glass to complete the modern look.
About Toughened Glass Pergolas
Before you decide on the glass, look closely at your terrace base. A heavy 10mm or 12mm toughened glass panel needs a perfectly leveled MS frame, or you will deal with uneven gaps that eventually lead to leaks. I personally weld and paint the frame on-site, ensuring every section is protected with red oxide primer and enamel coating before we ever mount the glass panels.
When you want an airy, modern outdoor space, a toughened glass pergola is the right choice, but the structure holding it up matters more than the glass itself. My process begins with a site visit to assess your terrace load and drainage.
The Build Quality
I use high-gauge mild steel (MS) for the grid because it provides the rigidity needed for heavy glass panels. Unlike pre-fabricated options that might wobble, my frames are welded on-site, meaning we custom-fit the steel to your specific terrace dimensions.
Why Toughened Glass
We use 10mm to 12mm toughened glass for these projects. It is impact-resistant and, more importantly, safe. If it ever breaks under extreme stress, it shatters into small, blunt pieces rather than dangerous, sharp shards. We seal the edges using high-grade structural silicone—the same type used in commercial facade glazing—to ensure your pergola stays leak-proof through Bangalore's heavy monsoons.
My Approach to Finishing
- Surface Prep: Every piece of steel is coated with an anti-corrosive red oxide primer, followed by a double coat of quality enamel paint. This prevents rust, which is the biggest enemy of outdoor metal structures in our city.
- Welding: My team and I grind down all weld points on pergola frames. This gives the steel a clean, smooth, non-industrial look that fits perfectly with home aesthetics.
- Customization: Whether you have a wide patio or a small balcony, I design the grid layout to maximize natural sunlight while keeping the structure sturdy. We don't use quick-fix jugads; we build it to last.
