Conceptual Photography Series: From The Pages
A visual commentary on media's influence, where magazine imagery meets fashion portraiture in a raw, conceptual narrative.
A full-length portrait of the model in an earth-toned outfit, with a collage of magazine clippings attached to her jacket. The painterly, textured background adds a timeless, artistic quality to the modern concept.
A close-up portrait focusing on the model's direct gaze and the collage of fashion images on her jacket. The dramatic lighting highlights the contrast between the human subject and the media she is wearing.
A magazine-style spread featuring two portraits, with the title 'FROM THE PAGES' integrated into the design. This image directly plays with the medium it critiques, blending photography with graphic layout.
A diptych layout, presenting two different conceptual portraits side by side as if on a magazine page. This format reinforces the theme of media consumption and its influence on personal style.
Another magazine spread layout, contrasting a full-body shot with a close-up portrait. The use of color overlays and collage elements creates a visually rich narrative about fashion media.
A close-up portrait with a high-contrast, yellow-toned filter, where the model holds playing cards. The collage style and bold color treatment give the image a pop-art feel, exploring themes of chance and identity.
An abstract shot where the model's face is obscured, drawing full attention to the yellow jacket adorned with magazine clippings. This image emphasizes the clothes and the media as the primary subjects.
About this collection
To bring the 'From The Pages' series to life, we moved beyond standard posing. This project required precise coordination between styling and makeup to make the physical magazine cutouts look like a natural extension of the model’s wardrobe. It is a technical exercise in lighting and layering, ensuring the textures of paper and fabric hold up under the lens.
The 'From The Pages' series is an exploration of the relationship between mass-media imagery and personal identity. By integrating physical magazine cutouts directly onto the wardrobe, I aimed to capture the way fashion editorials dictate our own style choices.
Each frame uses a mix of high-contrast studio lighting and specific color grading to blend the collage elements with the model's features. This project relied on a dedicated creative squad—stylists, hair artists, and makeup professionals—to ensure the concept remained coherent across every shot.
We explored several techniques here, including:
- Physical Collage: Integrating print media onto clothing to critique how media consumes our self-perception.
- Lighting Design: Using dramatic, high-contrast strobe setups to flatten the distinction between the subject and the graphic elements.
- Narrative Layouts: Designing the images as editorial spreads, utilizing color overlays to tie disparate elements together.
This series serves as a prime example of my approach to editorial photography. Whether shooting in Mumbai or Kochi, my goal remains the same: to move past simple outfit photography and create a narrative that invites the viewer to look closer. If you are looking for conceptual fashion photography or need an art director for your brand lookbook, this series demonstrates how I manage the entire production, from the initial visual deck to the final high-end edit.
