About Fashion & Editorial Photography
What Drives My Photography
Fashion is more than clothes - it’s a whole mood, a story, a piece of art. I don’t just take pictures of outfits; I try to build a world around every idea, whether it’s something wild or something soft. Honestly, some days the shoot feels like a proper creative jam session, other days it’s a bit chaotic, but that’s all part of it.
Visual Style & Approach
- I’m obsessed with dramatic lighting, deep shadows and silhouettes. If the story needs it, I’ll go for those high-contrast, moody vibes - sometimes even full-on chiaroscuro.
- My colors jump all over the place. Some shoots are full of vibrant color-blocking, others go pastel and dreamy, or just stripped down to stark black and white. I also mess around with motion blur or long exposures to get that painterly feel.
- 35mm film? Yup, I shoot with it too when the project fits.
- The person in front of the camera is never “just a model” - they’re the soul of the whole narrative.
Collaboration & Process
I work best with a full creative squad - stylists, creative directors, hair/makeup, the whole team. Shoots are a two-way street, and I’m all about open chats and respecting everyone’s craft. Sometimes I lead the vision, other times I jump in to make a specific concept come alive. Smooth teamwork is key.
Where My Work Shows Up
- I shoot studio and outdoor, mostly in Mumbai and Kochi.
- Artistic brand campaign photography is my jam, especially for designers and labels wanting to push boundaries.
- If you want a narrative-driven lookbook or a high-fashion magazine editorial (think ELLE India style), that’s right up my alley.
- I get fired up by conceptual photo stories - projects that challenge what fashion can say or mean.
A Few Recent Concepts
- “Chemical Reaction” - bold colors, wild shapes, all about human emotions clashing and mixing.
- “Ophelia” - dreamy, modern take on classic art, focusing on female strength.
- “From the pages” - models literally wearing magazine cutouts, poking fun at how media shapes us.
If you vibe with artful, narrative images that actually say something, I’m all in.

My Story
Hey, I’m Malavika. I split my time between Mumbai and Kochi, always chasing that next idea. For me, photography isn’t just about looking good – it’s about saying something, making you feel. I’m all about exploring stories, like how old glamour fades or how magazines shape us. Learned a lot at FAD International, surrounded by creative minds. Love the teamwork, from stylists to models. Seeing our vision in Elle India or PhotoVogue? That’s the real thrill.
