Behind the Scenes of Professional Makeup Artistry

On a professional set, makeup must do more than look good in a mirror. It has to withstand harsh studio lights, high-resolution cameras, and hours of activity. I spend my time monitoring the director's screen to catch shine or stray hair before the camera does, ensuring every take remains as polished as the first.

The reality of an on-set makeup artist is less about sitting in a chair and more about movement. Whether I am working on a film set like 'Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira' or a jewellery campaign for a brand like ORRA, the priority is always technical consistency.

Why Studio Makeup Is Different

• Lighting Adaptation: I adjust makeup intensity based on the lighting rig, whether it is natural light or heavy strobe setups. This ensures the skin looks realistic, not mask-like, under the lens.
• Continuity Management: I keep a close watch on continuity. If a character is meant to look sweaty for a dramatic scene, that sweat needs to be in the exact same place for every take.
• Product Performance: I use high-tier products like NARS, Dior, and Bobbi Brown that are engineered for 4K video. These products do not flashback under strong studio flashes or cake under high-definition cameras.
• The Team Environment: A set is a team effort. My role involves constant coordination with the director, hair stylists, and the talent. Efficiency is the currency on set; I know how to deliver a complex look quickly without interrupting the shooting schedule.

My goal is to handle the technical details—from body makeup and sweat-proofing to outfit draping—so that the talent and the crew can focus on the performance. I bring my kit and my experience to sets across Mumbai and beyond, ready to handle the demands of any production schedule.
