On a film set, lighting changes every hour. My focus is 'HD-engineered' application; I balance high-coverage bases with sweat-proof techniques so the skin remains breathable and consistent on camera, whether we’re shooting outdoors in the rain or under intense studio lights.
Continuity is Everything
When working on long-format projects like 'Jee Karda' or feature films like 'Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira', the priority isn't just a pretty look; it's consistency. I track character arcs through makeup, ensuring that a scene filmed on Monday morning matches the retake on Thursday afternoon. This involves meticulous logging of products and techniques to maintain visual continuity across the entire production schedule.
Working with the Camera
I understand that high-resolution sensors and 4K lenses see everything. My application methods are strictly designed to prevent common on-set issues like flashback, caking, or separation under hot studio lights.
- HD Finishes: High-coverage yet skin-like textures that handle macro shots for jewellery or close-ups without looking heavy.
- Flashproofing: Specific contouring and setting techniques for event press junkets where camera flashes are constant.
- Body Makeup: Uniform skin-tone correction for neck and decolletage to ensure the actor looks seamless from every angle.
The Collaborative Process
Sets are collaborative spaces. I am used to working in tandem with the Director of Photography (DP) to adjust makeup intensity based on the lighting setup, and I coordinate closely with stylists and hair artists. Whether I am lead on a project or working as part of a larger crew, my goal is to keep the talent comfortable and ready for the next shot without needing constant intervention from production.
