Before I apply any cement, I sketch the deity’s form directly onto your wall with chalk to ensure the scale fits perfectly. I build the structure layer by layer, first establishing the base with chicken mesh for reinforcement and then carving the finer details like facial features, jewelry, and clothing folds by hand. This ensures the finished mural is solid, weather-resistant, and permanent.
The Process of Sacred Sculpting
Every sacred mural I create follows a strict, labor-intensive process. I do not use mass-produced molds. Instead, I hand-model everything on-site. For high-relief 3D figures like Ganesha or Perumal, I first construct an armature using metal rods and bricks to support the weight. I then layer the cement, smoothing and carving as it cures.
Why Cement for Deities?
Cement is not just a building material to me; it is a medium for permanence. When I carve a Lord Krishna or Buddha mural, I am creating something designed to stand for decades. I use high-grade cement and river sand to ensure the texture is fine enough for the delicate anatomy of a face, yet strong enough to withstand direct sun and rain on exterior building elevations.
Practical Considerations
- Depths: I offer low-relief for subtle accents (1-2 inches) and high-relief (3-6+ inches) for central, eye-catching deity figures.
- Surface: My work can be left in a clean, monochromatic grey finish or painted with exterior-grade emulsions if you prefer color.
- Site Requirements: For large-scale 3D sculptures, I need a minimum order area to make the structural work viable.
- Coverage: I travel across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh for projects, whether it is for a home entrance, a living room, or a dedicated temple space.
