For this large, sloped property, I designed and built a long, winding pathway using large stone slabs. This not only makes it easy to walk through the garden but also adds a beautiful design element to the landscape.
This is a detailed look at a pathway transformation. I replaced a muddy dirt track with a clean and modern walkway made of stone pavers and bright white gravel, bordered by simple red bricks for a neat finish.
About Custom Garden Pathways
A pathway is more than just a walkway; it keeps your shoes clean and your garden accessible even during the monsoon. I build these with a proper 3 to 4-inch base using compacted sand and brick edging so they do not shift over time. Whether you choose natural Mint Sandstone or rough Kota, my focus is on a layout that handles the soil and keeps your greenery intact.
A good garden pathway needs to handle the local weather. In Delhi NCR, that means ensuring proper drainage and solid foundations. My process is simple and transparent:
- Excavation & Base: We start by digging 3 to 4 inches deep. A proper path needs a stable foundation of compacted sand or concrete, not just stones laid on loose dirt.
- Edging: I use clay brick borders to keep the soil contained. This prevents mud from spilling over your clean pathway during rain.
- Stone Selection: I prefer natural materials like Mint Sandstone or Kota Stone. They do not heat up as much as artificial tiles and look better as they age.
- Finishing: The gaps between stones are filled with white, black, or mixed river pebbles. This is key for drainage, allowing water to seep into the ground rather than pooling on your path.
By avoiding cheap materials and focusing on foundation work, I create paths that are as durable as they are beautiful. You get a clean, functional walkway that lets you actually enjoy your garden space, even right after a spell of rain.
