Our Ballet Training Philosophy
We believe ballet is a tool for lifelong learning. Our method combines rigorous technique with a supportive environment where discipline, resilience, and physical growth are the true measures of success.
Are ballet uniforms just for looks? Absolutely not. I explain to parents why proper attire, especially professional ballet shoes, is a scientific tool essential for the correct development of the feet and overall technique.
It's not just about the steps; it's about the story you tell. Our teacher, Ms. Elina, explains how to pull passion and expression out of yourself, even in a simple plié, to captivate an audience and become a truly lovely dancer.
Why do we run outreach programs? Because we believe dance can change the course of a life. It's not about creating ballerinas; it's about keeping dance in education and giving kids an experience they might never have had otherwise.
Why do we dance? To grow through discipline. Here, I am working with a student on her posture, a fundamental aspect of our training that builds strength and focus.
About Our Teaching Philosophy
We require specific uniforms, especially professional-grade shoes, not because they look traditional but because they are scientific tools. Using non-professional shoes inhibits proper foot development and risks injury, which is the exact opposite of our goal. Our training is structured to protect your joints and build long-term strength, so we ask that you respect these technical requirements from your very first class.
A Different Approach to Dance
At The Lewis Foundation of Classical Ballet (TLFCB), we run our classes a bit like a Montessori environment. You will see older, more experienced students working alongside newcomers. This mixed-level dynamic allows the younger ones to learn by observation, while the seniors reinforce their knowledge by guiding others. We do not focus on being 'pretty in pink'; we focus on sweat, alignment, and structural integrity.
Why Technique Matters
We are an ISTD-affiliated school, which means our curricula are standardized for safety and progression. Whether you are enrolling in our Professional Semester or a monthly adult fitness subscription, you are receiving instruction based on anatomical safety. We use Harlequin-style sprung floors across our studios in Bengaluru to absorb impact, protecting your knees and ankles during high-intensity work like BarreFIT or Cunningham Technique® sessions.
A Disciplined Space
Our studios in Frazer Town, Koramangala, and Whitefield are designed for silence and concentration. We believe that when you strip away the distraction of 'perfomative' dance, you are left with the real work of building a dancer's body. You will find that our classes are demanding—you will be challenged, you will be corrected, and you will work harder than you might expect. This is exactly where the pride of achievement comes from. We invite you to join us not to be perfect, but to be disciplined, resilient, and better than you were yesterday.
