About Custom Storytelling & Portrait Mehndi
Portrait mehndi is a labor of love that requires patience. These designs involve delicate shading and fine lines to capture faces and scenes accurately, which is why a typical session for this style can take between 6 to 8 hours. It is an investment of time, but it ensures your wedding story is captured exactly how you imagined it on your hands.
How We Build Your Story
When you choose a storytelling design, we are doing more than applying henna. We are sketching your journey. I start by understanding the specific moments you want to highlight. It might be the moment you exchanged garlands, a silhouette of your wedding venue, or even initials that hold special meaning.
The Art of Detail
Portrait work requires a different level of precision compared to traditional patterns. I use a 'zero-gap' filling technique to ensure the portrait is the focal point, surrounded by intricate borders that complement rather than distract from the faces. Because these designs are heavy and require deep concentration, I work on these personally, ensuring the shading and line work truly capture the likeness of the bride and groom.
Practical Advice for Portraits
- Planning: Because of the time involved, I recommend finalizing your design concept at least two weeks before the event.
- Skin Prep: Good results depend on how you care for your skin before I arrive. Keep your hands exfoliated and free of heavy lotions on the day of the application.
- Aftercare: Since these are dense, heavy designs, the henna paste will sit on your skin for a while. I provide specific instructions on how to maintain heat for the best possible stain, ensuring that your story looks just as good in the photos as it does on the wedding day.
