Bird Portraits: Capturing Bengaluru’s Wildlife Up Close

Every bird has a story, and I’m here to capture it. From sunrise rides to quiet, mud-streaked waits, these are the moments where details, feathers, and character come alive.

About this collection

Getting these shots is not just about the 300mm lens. It is about the 4 AM start, the freezing ride on my Activa, and the patience to sit still in the mud until the birds forget I am even there. I do not use bulky setups that scare them off; I keep my gear light, stay low, and wait for the wildlife to come to me.

Behind the lens

Photography is my way of breathing and healing. When I am out at places like Jakkar Lake or Sanky Tank, I am not just looking for a bird. I am looking for the one frame where the light hits the feathers just right. My Nikon D3500 and 300mm lens allow me to get those crisp portraits without disturbing their natural behavior.

The editing process

Everyone talks about the camera work, but half the magic happens on my laptop. I spend hours on post-processing, color grading, and removing urban distractions like wires from the background. I want you to see the bird as it really looks in the wild—raw, beautiful, and full of life.

Where I shoot

I stick to urban wildlife hotspots around Bengaluru. Whether it is a Great Cormorant by the water or a Shikra watching from a tree, I know these locations intimately. I do not rush the process; I wait for the golden hour, the mist, and that perfect moment when the subject is finally ready. If you want wildlife photos that feel real and intimate, that is exactly what I deliver.

I’m Lalith. Photography isn't just my job, it is my compass. Whether I am trekking through rocky terrains or waiting by the water at Jakkar Lake, I am chasing that one perfect frame that shows who these birds really are.
