You don't need years of practice to sketch a realistic eye. In this workshop, I break down the anatomy of an eye into simple light and shadow steps so you can create a piece you will actually want to frame.

Here I am giving one-on-one guidance during an eye sketching workshop. I make sure to help each person with their specific drawing.

About Realistic Eye Sketching

We do not start with complex anatomy theory. We start by looking at a reference photo together, picking up a graphite pencil, and figuring out how light hits the curve of an iris. Even if you have never held a blending stump before, I will walk you through the layering process so you can build that depth without feeling overwhelmed.

This is a pencil sketch tribute to Michelangelo's iconic sculpture, David. I used a cross-hatching technique to build texture and capture the intense expression, a great exercise in studying the masters.
Here you can see my final sketch of David next to the reference image. My portrait study classes focus on learning to see and replicate proportions, light, and shadow accurately to create a faithful representation.
