Portraits of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
I paint portraits of Shivaji Maharaj with deep respect, focusing on his regal expression and the intricate details that honor his legacy.
A custom acrylic portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, showing a side profile. I paid close attention to the intricate details of his turban, the patterns on his attire, and his determined gaze, creating a classic and respectful tribute.
This video shows the creation of the Shivaji Maharaj portrait. It begins with preparing the canvas, then moves through the detailed brushwork on his turban and clothing, and ends with me presenting the finished 3x4 ft painting.
Here you can see the process behind the large portrait of Shivaji Maharaj. I spent many hours carefully adding layers of acrylic paint to capture the fine details of his expression, jewelry, and attire, bringing his powerful image to life on the canvas.
About Portraits of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
Painting Shivaji Maharaj requires more than just technique, as it needs patience for the fine details like the texture of the turban, the glint in his eyes, and the embroidery on his attire. I use high-pigment acrylics to layer these details until the portrait feels alive, ensuring the final piece truly honors his spirit.
When I start a portrait of Shivaji Maharaj, I first focus on capturing the specific mood you want, whether it is his calm wisdom or his powerful warrior presence. I work on fine-grain cotton canvas, which allows me to blend skin tones and fabric textures effectively. For larger works, I sometimes use texture paste to give the jewelry and attire a slight 3D effect.
Since these portraits are often centerpieces for homes or offices, I pay close attention to the final finish. I apply a double coat of varnish so the colors remain vibrant and protected against dust for years. Because these pieces range from medium 24x36 inch canvases to large 4x5 feet statement works, I ensure the shipping process is secure. Larger portraits are shipped as rolled canvases in PVC tubes to prevent any damage during transit. I also make sure to share work-in-progress photos, so you can see the portrait taking shape and verify the expressions before I finalize it. My goal is to create a piece that feels like a respectful tribute to Maharaj.
