A garden should be a space you actually live in, not just look at. I design custom seating, pergolas, and lighting to turn your terrace into a functional, comfortable outdoor room.

This custom-built wooden bench is designed with planters at each end, seamlessly integrating seating with greenery for a functional and beautiful garden feature.

A look at a cafe's outdoor area I designed in Greater Kailash, featuring whimsical lighting, decorative sculptures, and a beautiful wooden pergola covered in artificial vines.

At night, this garden comes alive with carefully placed lighting that highlights the textures of the plants, the pebble pathway, and the unique mushroom-shaped decor.

This wooden pergola is densely covered with artificial money plant and wisteria vines, creating a lush green canopy over an outdoor seating area.

In addition to plants, I added a stacked stone water fountain to this industrial terrace, bringing the soothing sound of flowing water to the urban environment.

A closer look at the artificial vine installation on a dark wood pergola, showing how it creates the feeling of an established, natural canopy.

About Custom Seating & Garden Features

I often design benches with planters built directly into the ends. It is a smart way to get both seating and greenery without cluttering a small terrace, giving you a sturdy, permanent place to relax while keeping your plants organized and accessible.

When you have a terrace, the biggest mistake is treating it like a showroom rather than a living area. My approach to custom seating and garden features focuses on making the space usable in our Delhi climate.

Why Custom Built-Ins Work

On rooftops or small balconies, loose furniture often gets blown around by strong winds or takes up too much floor space. I prefer fixed seating—benches constructed from MS frames clad in WPC or stone. By integrating planters directly into the bench structure, you create a seamless look where the seating blends into the garden. It is efficient, sturdy, and low-maintenance.

Structures and Shade

A terrace without shade is unusable for most of the day. I install pergolas using MS frames, often adding wooden louvers or polycarbonate sheets to block the harsh sun. These structures also serve as the perfect frame for climbing plants like money plants or wisteria, which I use to create a lush, green canopy over your seating area.

Lighting for Atmosphere

A garden should look as good at night as it does during the day. I plan out waterproof sconces, concealed LED strips under bench edges, and ambient string lights to highlight the textures of your planters and paths.

Materials I Use

  • Seating & Decking: I use seasoned outdoor wood slats or WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) for durability against the elements.
  • Masonry: For planters and feature walls, I use brickwork clad in granite or slate to ensure they withstand the weight and moisture.
  • Decor: From stone water fountains to recycled material sculptures, I add these elements to ground the space and give it personality, whether it is a quiet home terrace or a busy cafe roof.

I’m the person behind Jpgardens, and I have been turning empty Delhi rooftops into functional gardens since 1992. I don't just put down grass and leave; I build the benches, pergolas, and lighting that make a garden a place you will actually use.
