Astrophotography and Night Sky Photography in Mumbai

I look beyond the city skyline to capture the stars, planets, and moon. It is a technical process, but the results reveal a quiet side of Mumbai that most miss.

My first attempt at creating star trails, stacking hundreds of photos to show the Earth's rotation against the night sky.

A timelapse of the night sky, showing the stars and planets moving across the frame, with palm trees in the foreground.

A timelapse video capturing the movement of stars in the night sky until the lens fogs up from the humidity.

A glimpse of the Milky Way as seen from Pune, a rare sight captured between the geometric lines of a building.

A long exposure shot of a starry night sky, with the silhouette of a palm tree adding a tropical feel.

A rare alignment of Jupiter, Venus, and the crescent Moon, captured in the night sky above the Mumbai skyline.

A closer view of the planetary alignment, showing the two planets as bright dots below the glowing moon.

A wide shot of the alignment, also capturing the light trail of a passing airplane in the frame.

A full moon rising over residential buildings in Mumbai, its bright glow creating a hazy, atmospheric effect.

A crescent moon captured next to the twin towers of a skyscraper under construction in Mumbai.

About Celestial Views: Astrophotography

Shooting the night sky in a city like Mumbai requires patience and specific planning to cut through light pollution. I use long exposure techniques and image stacking to pull details out of the darkness, whether it is a rare planetary alignment or the Milky Way. If you are looking to document a specific celestial event or want high-resolution night shots of your property or landscape, the key is choosing the right night and waiting for the right atmospheric conditions.

Capturing the night sky is not just about pointing a camera upward. In a dense urban environment like Mumbai, light pollution is the biggest hurdle. My approach involves using long exposure settings to let in enough light without washing out the image, and sometimes stacking hundreds of individual frames to track the Earth's rotation for star trails.

Timing is the most critical element of my process. Whether it is a crescent moon rising over a skyscraper like the Palais Royale or a rare conjunction of Jupiter and Venus, I plan these shoots around astronomical calendars and weather reports. I also apply these techniques to architectural night photography, balancing the ambient light of the city with the darker sky above to create depth.

If you have a specific astronomical event in mind or need professional astrophotography to capture a location at night, we should discuss the visibility and weather conditions well in advance. My editing process then brings out the contrast and color, ensuring the final image looks as sharp as the night it was taken.

I am a photographer based in Mumbai with an eye for what happens after the sun goes down. I do not just take pictures of buildings; I wait for the planets to align or the moon to rise to give them context. If you want a different view of your space, let’s talk.
