Handcrafted Upcycled Saree Dresses & Custom Outfits
I transform heirloom sarees into modern jumpsuits, co-ords, and keepsake outfits that carry your family's stories. Let's make something new out of something precious.
This project was pure joy. I took a mother's beautiful purple Banarasi saree and transformed it into two coordinated outfits: a stylish skirt and jacket set for her, and an adorable matching dress for her little girl. This is what I mean when I say it's about matching hearts, not just clothes.
A client wanted to give her beautiful teal saree a modern life. We redesigned it into this chic, backless jumpsuit. It shows how a traditional heirloom fabric can become a contemporary statement piece, perfect for a special event.
A baby's first outfits hold so many memories. Here, I took a little girl's colorful striped dress, which she had outgrown, and carefully upcycled it into a stylish turban cap for her to wear as a toddler. It’s a small way to carry a sweet memory forward.
About Featured
When I work with your sarees, I don't just cut fabric. I use specialized western drafting techniques to ensure silk or zari doesn't tear at stress points like armholes or crotches. Every jumpsuit or skirt I stitch includes protective crepe lining and built-in padding, so you get the look of a modern silhouette without losing the grace of your original heirloom piece.
Every old dupatta or saree lying in your trunk has a story. I don't see old clothes; I see memories waiting to be lived again. My goal is to help you wear your memories, not just store them in a trunk.
My Upcycling Process
- Consultation & Design: We start by chatting about the story behind your fabric. I sketch out ideas to see how we can map motifs—like using the pallu for a bodice or a border for a waist belt—to make the piece unique to you.
- Structural Engineering: Upcycling isn't just about sewing; it is about engineering. I use fused canvas in collars and belts for stiffness and heavy-duty concealed YKK zippers. Because vintage fabrics can be delicate, I perform a full inspection and apply reinforcement stitching to weak spots.
- Comfort & Fit: I believe you should feel good in what you wear. I use 15+ body data points for made-to-measure construction. If we are converting a heavy saree into a Lehenga or Anarkali, I include dual layers of crepe or santoon lining to prevent snagging on the embroidery and ensure the outfit flows comfortably.
- Preservation: Even if a garment is outgrown, we can often save the fabric. I frequently turn children's clothes into keepsake accessories like caps or pouches, so that sweet memory stays with you a little longer.
If you have a saree or an old dress you love but never wear, let's look at it together and see what we can create.
