Large-Scale Industrial & Institutional Architecture

Designing large-scale facilities requires balancing operational efficiency with architectural character. We create structures that serve their function while respecting their environment.

This video tells the story of the Unani Medicine factory, a project I designed a decade ago. It shows the journey from initial sketches and site visits to the completed structure, highlighting how we pushed boundaries to create an inspiring and unique industrial facility.

A perspective view of the Aligarh Muslim University factory complex. The design features repeating architectural bays with arched windows, creating a sense of rhythm and grandeur across the facade while honoring traditional Islamic design principles.

This is an architectural elevation for a massive steel factory in Bulandshahr, UP. The design for this 3.5-acre site features a 24-meter-high structure with a modern industrial aesthetic, using corrugated metal cladding and a brick base.

A detailed view of the steel factory's elevation. The design incorporates long vertical windows to allow natural light into the vast industrial space, breaking up the massive scale of the facade and adding a functional design element.

About this collection

When designing industrial units like our 80,000 sqft Unani Medicine factory for Aligarh Muslim University, I prioritize how the structure interacts with its immediate environment. It is not just about the footprint, it is about using design elements like repeating architectural bays and strategic natural lighting to ensure the space is functional yet dignified for the people working inside every day.

Industrial and institutional architecture demands a unique blend of engineering precision and spatial logic. When we approach a 3.5-acre site, such as our steel factory project in Bulandshahr, the challenge lies in managing massive scales. In that specific project, we handled 154,690 sqft of built-up area rising 24 meters high, requiring meticulous planning to maintain structural integrity and efficient internal flow.

Our Approach to Large-Scale Design

  • Operational Efficiency: We analyze the workflow first. A factory must be efficient, with logistics, production zones, and safety pathways clearly defined before we draw a single line.
  • Structural Identity: We use materials like corrugated metal cladding and reinforced brick bases to ground these massive structures, ensuring they stand the test of time while looking intentional rather than utilitarian.
  • Contextual Sensitivity: For institutional work, such as school and college campus design, the focus shifts to inspiration. We integrate daylight through vertical windows and create layouts that foster curiosity and collaboration among students.

Whether it is an industrial facility requiring heavy-duty infrastructure or a modern educational building, we manage the entire process from conceptual sketches to the final site execution. We believe large-scale projects should respect the local context, whether that means incorporating traditional Islamic architectural motifs or modern industrial steel aesthetics.
