About In the Practice Room: Learning & Growing
We keep our batches strictly capped at 3 to 5 students, so you aren't just sitting in a room while a teacher lectures. Our instructors move from student to student during each hour-long session, checking your posture on the guitar or helping you hit those piano scales, ensuring you get actual hands-on correction rather than generic advice.
How We Teach
Learning music shouldn't feel like a chore. Our approach at Hum & Strum is built on three pillars: Practice, Play, and Perform. When you join a session in our Whitefield studio, you are not just memorizing notes from a book.
Our instructors follow a rotational teaching method. In a group of 3 to 5 students, you get the social benefit of learning alongside others, but the instructor circles back to you individually throughout the 60-minute session. This means your technique on the drums, your finger placement on the guitar, or your posture at the piano is corrected in real-time.
Preparing for Grades or Just Fun?
It depends entirely on you. We are fully equipped to help you crack international exams like Trinity College London or RSL (Rockschool). If that is your goal, we follow the syllabus strictly to get you ready. However, if you are here just to play your favorite Bollywood song or learn the basics of Western vocals, we adapt our lessons to fit your goals. You have access to our in-class instruments—Yamaha keyboards, acoustic guitars, and amplifiers—so you don't even need to bring your own gear to get started.
The 'Hum & Strum' Difference
We believe you only truly learn when you get over the fear of being heard. That is why our practice room is just the starting point. We encourage all our students to eventually join our 'Music Room Sessions'—our monthly, low-pressure jam sessions where you get to perform in front of others. It is the perfect bridge from the quiet of the practice room to the noise of the stage. If you are ever stuck, our app keeps you on track with your lesson logs, attendance, and fee updates, so you can focus on the music.
Hum & Strum
We are a bunch of musicians in Whitefield who believe music isn't just theory—it’s a way to express yourself. Whether you are five or fifty, you will find a space here to learn, mess up, laugh, and eventually get on stage. We are all about making music accessible and genuinely fun for everyone who walks through our doors.
