Come for the mountain view, stay for the silence. We have the space, the snacks, and a library full of books waiting to be read.

A peek at just one of the six shelves from our in-house bookworm's personal collection. Our library is curated with love and packed with gems for you to discover.

The first icebreaker at our Reading Retreat. A stack of books brought by participants, ready to be swapped, discussed, and devoured.

A participant holds a copy of 'Dona: Mountain Wind', a book that feels right at home in the Himalayas. Our library has a special section for mountain-themed literature.

'The Education of Yuri' by Jerry Pinto finds a perfect reading spot by a window overlooking the lush greenery of the retreat.

A copy of Nadine Gordimer's 'Get a Life' rests on a windowsill next to fresh pears from the region. Simple, beautiful moments from our Reading Retreat.

A book about the Himalayas, enjoyed with a local snack, against the backdrop of the Himalayas themselves. A truly immersive reading experience.

Our library is the heart of the retreat. These glass-doored cabinets house a diverse collection of fiction and non-fiction, waiting to be explored by our guests.

A book held open against the mountain landscape. Here, reading is not an escape from life, but a deeper engagement with it.

About The Reading Room & Retreats

You do not need to pack a heavy suitcase of novels to come to Satkhol. Our library holds six full shelves of fiction, memoirs, and mountain-themed classics, all ready for you to pull off the shelf. Pick a spot by the window or head out to the forest trails, and just read without any real-world distractions.

Why a reading retreat?

We realized that while many people come to us to write, others just want the quiet space to actually finish the books gathering dust on their nightstands. This is why we started the Reading Retreat. It is not a classroom and there are no assignments. You bring the book you have been meaning to read for months, or you grab one from our library, and you spend your days doing exactly what you want.

The Library and The Vibe

Our library is the heart of the retreat. It is stocked with a diverse mix of contemporary fiction, non-fiction, and titles about the Himalayas. If you finish your book, you can trade it with fellow guests or browse the shelves for your next read.

Expect a rhythm that prioritizes calm over productivity. We organize bonfire read-alouds in the evenings, sunset walks with tea and local snacks, and plenty of independent time. This is for the reader who wants to engage with stories deeply, away from city traffic and notification pings.

What to expect

  • No Agenda: No reading lists, no quizzes, and no pressure to finish a book if you decide you do not like it.
  • The Community: You will meet fellow readers who value deep conversation over small talk. Expect communal meals, bonfire discussions, and candid chats.
  • Comfort: Our Satkhol premises offer quiet corners, wood-paneled rooms with heating, and full meals so you can focus entirely on your book.
