Our Community: Stories and Connection in the Himalayas
You come for the solitude, but you stay for the tribe. See how strangers become lifelong friends in the quiet of our Satkhol retreat.
The wonderful group from a recent screenwriting workshop. Strangers become friends and a support system, bonded by a shared passion for storytelling.

A group of participants taking a moment to admire the valley view together. Shared silence is as much a part of the community experience as shared stories.
The group from our June Reading Retreat. They came for the books but stayed for the conversations, the food, and the friendships.
Our furry resident Zaya often joins the reading sessions, adding to the cozy, homely vibe of the retreat. Here, a participant enjoys a book with a four-legged friend.
Two participants immersed in their books in our sunlit common area. The retreat offers a perfect balance of community interaction and personal quiet time.
A reader gets comfortable for a long session, with only one pressing question in mind: "Aaj dessert mein kya hai?" (What's for dessert today?).
A participant finds their focus zone, completely absorbed in a book with a furry companion nearby. This is what we mean by distraction-free reading.
A participant enjoying the morning sun and the mountain air. These moments of quiet joy are what make the retreat experience so rejuvenating.
The smile says it all. A happy participant enjoying the beautiful surroundings of our Himalayan retreat.
About Our Community: Stories & Connection
People often ask if they will feel lonely in the mountains. The truth is quite the opposite. Between our shared Kumaoni meals, evening bonfires, and quiet afternoons in the library, you naturally stop being a stranger to the person sitting next to you. We don't do forced networking or stiff introductions. Instead, you get comfortable silence, furry companions like Zaya, and conversations that start over dessert.
Our retreat in Satkhol is built on the idea that writing is a solitary act, but living is better with a tribe. You might come here to finish a draft or manage some anxiety, but you usually leave with a list of contacts you actually want to call. We believe the magic happens in the 'in-between' moments. It is when a screenwriting peer proofreads your paragraph over tea, or when you are debating a plot point with a poet while trekking through the forest trails.
We intentionally keep our cohorts small, capped at 10 people, to ensure the group remains manageable and intimate. This is not a place where you wear a badge and exchange business cards. It is a space where you can show up as you are, tired or inspired, and find people who are doing the same. Whether you are joining our Healing Through Writing sessions with Dr. Vandita or a creative workshop, the community is the quiet backbone of the experience. You get the structure you need for your work and the human support system you did not know you were looking for.
The Himalayan Writing Retreat
We are not a typical workshop group. We are a pack of writers, readers, and seekers who come to Satkhol to find a bit of quiet, some good Kumaoni food, and people who listen.
