Award-Winning Landscape Design and Features
Recognition of our commitment to blending architecture and nature, from national design honours to features in Architectural Digest.
Having my work on the cover of Architectural Digest's garden issue was a true honor. It reflects my core belief in creating constant gardens that evolve and thrive over time.
I was thrilled to be featured in Architectural Digest India as one of the "plant whisperers" making design green. The article discusses my approach to making space and nature become one.
It was a privilege to receive the ID Honours for Landscape Design for the second time. I am grateful to the jury for recognizing my work and to my team and collaborators for their constant support.
Thank you to India Design ID for the ID Honours 2024. Being recognized among so many amazing practices in the country is an incredible feeling and a great motivation.
I was happy to receive two awards from the Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA) for my work on the Avasara Leadership Institute and Naturals NOW projects.

About this collection
These awards and features—including being named a 'plant whisperer' by Architectural Digest—recognize a very specific approach: choosing to work with native saplings and local farmers to let ecosystems evolve naturally. It means our projects are rarely 'finished' on day one, because we prioritize planting for how a space will look five years from now, not just how it looks at the opening ceremony.
While receiving the ID Honours and being recognized by the Indian Society of Landscape Architects (ISOLA) is a great feeling, these accolades are truly a reflection of the collaborative effort behind every site.
Why Our Approach Matters
Design recognition is meaningful when it highlights not just how a space looks, but how it functions as a living environment. Whether it was creating a tropical forest in a tight Mumbai urban plot for Naturals NOW, or working with local farmers to build a sustainable, wild sanctuary for the Avasara Academy in Pune, our focus remains the same:
- Native Species First: We avoid ornamental fillers, instead selecting indigenous plants that thrive in local soil and weather patterns.
- Long-Term Growth: We plan for five to ten years ahead, designing landscapes that mature, soften concrete, and deepen in colour as the seasons change.
- Collaborative Design: Every project is a mashup of ideas. We work closely with architects to ensure the landscape isn't an afterthought, but an extension of the building's identity.
Seeing the Work Evolve
My favourite part of this work isn't the trophy; it is visiting a campus two years later to see the creepers have taken over the walls and the avenue trees have started casting real shade. The 'Monsoon Magic' we aim for in our gardens—where everything turns lush and alive—is what I am most proud to share with my clients. If you are looking for a landscape architect who values deep-rooted ecological design, let's connect and discuss how we can bring your space to life.
Hemali Landscape Studio
I’m Hemali Samant. I started this studio to bridge the gap between our buildings and the natural world. While seeing my work featured in Architectural Digest and recognised by the design community is wonderful, my real pride lies in the landscapes that are still growing and changing with the seasons today.
