The jungle's magic isn't just in its giants; it's in the details. My workshops in Agumbe and Wayanad help you master the patience and lighting techniques needed to capture the hidden, smaller world of reptiles and insects.

A stunning Malabar Pit Viper from the mystical rainforests of Agumbe. This place is magical for anyone who loves reptiles, and my workshops here are designed to find and photograph these beauties.

About The Smaller Kingdom: Macro & Reptile Workshops

You don't need a massive telephoto lens to capture these shots. In these workshops, I show you how to manage lighting, even in dense rainforest cover, and how to get that perfect macro focus without startling your subject. It is less about the gear you bring and more about learning to read the forest floor and waiting for that split-second interaction.

The jungle hides its most intricate stories in the undergrowth. While big cat tracking gets the headlines, my macro and reptile workshops in biodiversity hotspots like Agumbe and Wayanad offer a more meditative, rewarding experience. You are not just taking photos; you are learning to read the forest floor.

We spend our time scouting for subjects like the Malabar Pit Viper, hump-nosed pit vipers, and unique gecko species. The challenge here is lighting. Unlike open safari drives, these forests are dense, and the light can be unpredictable. I teach you how to manage flash and natural light to separate your subject from the busy foliage, creating that clean, professional look.

Workshops typically run over two days. We focus on:

  • Subject identification: Learning where to look for reptiles and amphibians in their natural habitat.
  • Technical precision: Mastering focus stacking and manual settings to get crisp details on scales and textures.
  • Ethical practice: How to approach wildlife without causing stress or habitat damage.

These sessions are for anyone, whether you are an enthusiast with a basic camera or a pro looking to refine your macro game. By the end of the trip, you will not just have a few great shots; you will have a new way of seeing the wild.

I am Harsha, and I have spent fifteen years watching the jungle’s biggest stories unfold, but some of the best drama happens inches off the ground. When I am not tracking big cats, I am deep in the rainforest with a macro lens, teaching you how to find beauty in the smallest inhabitants. Join me to slow down and see the wild from a completely different perspective.
